1.About the Library
A library is the delivery room for the birth of ideas, a place where history come to life -Holbrook Jackson.
- The library established in the year 1998.
- The library has 13,917 books (as on 10/10/2021)
- Open Access of Books facility for the users.
- The Library Introduced barcode based computerized circulation system with the help of ILMS Koha (Version: 20.11.00.000).
- Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facilities for students adopted in the library.
- E-books and e-journals are available for the library user under
- Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content (N-LIST)” Program.
- Internet facility for users.
- Newspaper Reading Facility.
- Display of new arrival of Books.
- Reference/ Referral Service for the users.
- Current Awareness Service (CAS) for the users.
- Reading Room Facility for Study
- Print Facility for Digitized Previous Year Questions and Syllabus and other e-documents.
- Borrowing Facility
-Home issue: 1 Books for each student, 5th and 6th sem students 2 Books (for 15Days).
-On Site/Day issue: for reading room only.
-Magazine for competitive examinations such as SSC, NET/SET etc. are issued for daily issue only.
2.Library Objective and Goals
In support of the stated goals and objectives of the College, the Library has provided various service like books loan, reference service etc. To provide organized collections of print and non-print materials which will meet institutional requirements as well as the needs of students and the employees. To facilitate learning and community services by providing services, resources and facilities which encourage and stimulate individualized instruction, independent study and effective use of resources by students, faculty and the staff. Library of the Nagar College, Nagar, Murshidabad is the centre for all academic activities of the College. It is located at ground floor of the Central Building, spreading. There are separate reading room for faculty and students. The sitting capacity of the reading room of the library is for 50 readers. Local Area Network (LAN) connection exists including Wi-Fi throughout the library premises. Users are able to connect the laptop as well as their own devices through the library network. The library security surveillance system is equipped with CCTV cameras. The Library is automated with KOHA library management software. OPAC facilities are available through the campus network. It is automated and is one of the most modern technical libraries under University of Kalyani.
3.General Library Rules:
Only a single book can be deposited or lent by each student. The students should carry the library card while visiting the library. A regular student can borrow a single book and keep the book for not more than fifteen days. A fine of one rupee will be charged for each day in case of delay in returning the books. In case of any loss of the library card the concerned student is required to inform the librarian and deposit twenty five rupees for making provision for a new card. No Book will be circulated from the library at the time of examination in the college Books must be deposited by students within 10 days after completing university exam (Part –I,II,III), otherwise they will be charged a fine of Rs.100.00 with books. Borrower’s membership card being the library property must be returned to the library at the end of the period of issue. All those who leave the college must surrender their Library card to the library, and obtain a “Clearance” certificate from the librarian, in order to ensure that they owe no dues to the library including any overdue charges.

5. Library Service:
Circulation: A circulation or lending is one of the key of a library. The main student’s service point is the circulation desk or loans desk. Circulation desk is situated at library windows.
Reference/e-Reference Service/reading room Photocopy service : Available in library Question Bank (Digital and Print Question Papers available in Library)
Internet Service: Available in Library (Student/Teacher/Staff) may use with their own device through Wi-Fi and also 10 computers available for internet use in reading room.

Monday to Friday: (8.00am – 6.00pm).
Saturday: 8.00am – 3.00pm.
